KISS x UKIYO-E PROJECT Concept
UKIYO-E PROJECT began in the fall of 2014 with its greatly acclaimed first of its kind collaboration between a team of Japanese master artisans and the world famous rock band KISS. Given that historical Ukiyo-e famously depicted illustrious entertainment industry figures and scenes, contemporary collaboration with musicians proved to be the perfect modern day continuation of the Ukiyo-e tradition, and an exciting cross-cultural exchange. A series of 4 original Ukiyo-e were created using the band’s imagery. The handmade woodblock prints are First edition, limited to only 200 each, and with a number of pieces signed by the band. Each piece includes intricate detail drawing from the band’s own aesthetics while telling a story with Japanese Edo Period references.
