The first run of 100 prints from the “Red Fuji” woodblocks we recently introduced for our printing workshops is now complete.
Ahead of the upcoming events, each print was carefully hand-printed by a professional surishi (printer).
These prints will be available for purchase at our upcoming woodblock printing workshops. (The prints for sale were produced by a professional surishi before the blocks are used in the workshops.)
At the events, visitors will also have the opportunity to create their own woodblock print using these same blocks.

“Susume! Estampa japonesa contemporánea” – Joint Exhibition at the Museum of Zaragoza and IAACC Pablo Serrano
One of UKIYO-E PROJECT’s original ukiyo-e prints is currently on display at Susume!
Estampa japonesa contemporánea (“Susume! Contemporary Japanese Prints”), a joint exhibition by the Museo de Zaragoza and IAACC Pablo Serrano in Spain.
Bringing together 77 works from a private collection—including prints, illustrated books, magazines, and photographs—the exhibition explores the evolution of Japanese printmaking from the 20th century to the present day, including shin-hanga and sōsaku-hanga.
The works range from landscapes, actor portraits, and scenes from classic novels to
more contemporary subjects such as cats and rock stars.

Ukiyo-e Printing Workshop at Kanagawa University
We’re pleased to share that our Ukiyo-e printing workshop at Kanagawa University was a great success!
This time, participants had the opportunity to print two designs: The Great Wave off Kanagawa and Ono no Komachi. As the workshop took place in Yokohama, where the scene depicted in The Great Wave off Kanagawa is believed to be set, it was especially meaningful to print the work there.
The event also included a talk by Ukiyo-e advisor Professor Shigeru Shindō, who explained where Hokusai is thought to have viewed the scene from, as well as the meaning behind the Japanese title, Kanagawa-oki Nami Ura. The students listened with great interest and were equally enthusiastic when it was time to try printing for themselves.
As participants tried the printing process, we heard comments such as, “It’s more difficult than it looks!” Everyone worked with great focus and completed their prints beautifully. One student even told us, “I’m going to put it up at home,” which made us very happy to see how much they had enjoyed the experience.
We also displayed several works by UKIYO-E PROJECT at the venue, and it was wonderful to see the students looking at them with such interest.
It was a truly enjoyable and rewarding experience for us as well. We hope the workshop gave everyone the opportunity to enjoy the printing process, feel closer to Ukiyo-e, and discover more of its unique appeal.

KISS Ukiyo-e Prints Acquired by the Ashmolean Museum
We’re very pleased to share that two KISS Ukiyo-e prints created by UKIYO-E PROJECT have recently been acquired by the Ashmolean Museum in the United Kingdom. They are “Kabuki” (接吻四人衆大首揃) and “Paul Stanley” (浮世粋男接吻四人衆之内 宝琉須丹礼).
Having them join the collection of a museum with such a long history is a great honor and gives us renewed encouragement for the work ahead.
They are also scheduled to be shown in a special exhibition on kabuki planned for 2028.
To date, prints by UKIYO-E PROJECT are held in the following educational and cultural institutions:

• 2019 — The British Museum, United Kingdom
• 2016 — MAK – Museum of Applied Arts, Austria
We will continue creating new works while staying true to the essence of Ukiyo-e: “depicting the present.”
The Peninsula Tokyo Ukiyo-e Designs Have Been Made into Folding Fans
Three Ukiyo-e works created under the supervision of UKIYO-E PROJECT have now been made into folding fans. These special items were produced for guests of The Peninsula Tokyo.
Inspired by The Peninsula Tokyo’s history and the surrounding scenery, the designs express the charm of the hotel through the unique perspective of Ukiyo-e.
A beautiful way to bring Ukiyo-e a little closer to everyday life.
A Mini Great Wave for Hands-On Printing
During our printing workshops, we’ve had many people ask if they could try printing Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa—so we decided to make it happen!
We created a mini set of tehan (custom woodblocks owned by the publisher).
Before using them in our workshops, our master printer hand-printed a limited edition of 100 impressions.
They will be available at our upcoming hands-on printing events, so be sure to check them out.
Held a Ukiyo-e woodblock printing workshop at Sophia University
We’re pleased to share that our Ukiyo-e printing workshop at Sophia University was a great success!
We were joined by many students, and the venue remained lively and full of energy throughout the event. As participants tried the printing process themselves, we heard many comments like “It’s more delicate than I expected!” and “I didn’t realize there were so many steps involved!” It was especially memorable to see how engaged and immersed everyone was.
This time, we also introduced a new set of woodblocks featuring The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
It allowed participants to enjoy a more authentic Ukiyo-e experience, and it was very well received.
Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces as they held their finished prints, and the focus they showed while working, reminded us once again how meaningful it is to share this craft through hands-on experiences.
We hope this event helped bring Ukiyo-e closer to everyone.
We will continue to share the charm of traditional Japanese culture through activities like this.

The exhibition "Exploring with Hokusai!
The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Ukiyo-e Prints" at the Sumida Hokusai Museum is currently underway and has been a huge hit! To add to the excitement, we are hosting a woodblock printing workshop.
Join us to hand-print your own artwork using traditional techniques passed down through centuries. It’s a wonderful opportunity to get closer to the world of Ukiyo-e and immerse yourself in the craft.
You will also be able to view our contemporary Ukiyo-e works that are not currently on display in the main exhibition!

The Japan Premiere Red Carpet Event was held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Plaza.
At the entrance to the red carpet, a striking ukiyo-e-style banner welcomed the casts and guests — illustrated by OZ – Keisuke Yamaguchi and produced by UKIYO-E PROJECT.

Refeatured in Junior High School Art Textbook "Expression and Appreciation"
We are delighted to announce that our KISS-themed ukiyo-e artwork, “The Four Great Kissers” (接吻四人衆大首揃), created in 2025, will once again be featured in the junior high school art textbook "Expression and Appreciation".
Starting from April 2025, this textbook will be used for six years in art classes across junior high schools nationwide. It is a great honor for the UKIYO-E PROJECT to have our work continue to be part of the learning journey for the next generation.
Printmaking Workshop Held at Kanagawa University
We recently had the opportunity to introduce Ukiyo-e and held a woodblock printing experience seminar at the Japanese Language and Culture Program at Kanagawa University, Hakuraku Campus.
Engaging directly with international students studying in Japan provided a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding & interest in Japanese culture.
At UKIYO-E PROJECT, we are committed to passing down the history and techniques of Ukiyo-e to the next generation of students and researchers. Through collaborations with educational institutions, we strive to share the value of Ukiyo-e with people worldwide and explore new possibilities for traditional culture.

At BAG, we plan to hold Life-and-Art themed exhibition. The project "ART in MUSIC" focuses on Life and Music, mainly highlighting the visual art of record jackets. This exhibition, which is a continuation of the past themes of "City Pop" and "Jazz," is the third installment focusing on "Rock," specifically the transformative seven years between 1978 to 1984 in the Western rock music. This era saw rapid changes in technology and media, and gave birth to some of the most creative and edgy moments in rock history with provocative graphics and cutting-edge fashion. The exhibition is supervised by musician and music producer Akihito Katayose, revisiting the visual expressions of rock during this period. Portraits of musicians by photographer Toshi Yajima and works depicting rock musicians by visual artist Mick Itaya will also be displayed. Additionally, the vintage
rock T-shirts, Ukiyo-e prints of rock musicians, analog records, disc guides, and other related merchandise will be available on site.

Immersive video capturing the essence of SUI “KAWASEMI JOURNEY”
This time, we had the opportunity to work on the production of a web commercial for Suntory Gin SUI.
Ukiyo-e Artist (OZ- YAMAGUCHI KEISUKE) was in charge of the landscape artwork from Mt. Fuji to tea plantations. It's depicted in hues that embody the color of SUI itself. There’s also the interviews and behind-the-scenes so check them out as well.

UKIYO-E PRINTING DEMONSTRATION & WORKSHOP EVENT

We are excited to announce a woodblock printing demonstration and workshop at UCLA’s Clark Library in Los Angeles. We have invited woodblock printer Mr. Ogawa Nobuto from Tokyo to share the exquisite technique of woodblock printing and the unique traditional Japanese art with the local community.
